Geothermal Heat Pumps

Geothermal service.

Geothermal energy is the heat from the earth and is found most anywhere, including here in the Camp Hill area.

Because the earth remains at a consistent temperature just below its surface, geothermal heat pumps can utilize the earth’s energy to heat and cool your Central Pennsylvania home. No matter if you live in a climate with fluctuating temperatures or somewhere with a more steady temperature, the temperature below the surface remains relatively stable.

At HL Bowman, we love the efficiency and environmental friendliness of geothermal heat pumps. Our knowledgeable and experienced heating and cooling professionals are well trained in installing or replacing, repairing, and maintaining geothermal heat pumps.

Tapping into the earth’s energy can heat and cool your home while using less energy than a typical heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The first 10 feet or so of ground beneath the surface, which is considered the upper part of the earth’s crust, maintains a temperature between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit. This is perfect for geothermal heat pumps.

What Is a Geothermal Heat Pump?

Instead of burning fossil fuels like more traditional heating and cooling systems, geothermal heat pumps simply transfer heat from the earth to your home and back out. These type of heat pumps can save you 30 to 70 percent on your energy bill over the first five to 10 years, since they harness the available energy from the earth.

This works because it takes your geothermal heat pump much less energy to reach whatever temperature you designate on your home’s thermostat when the starting point is 55 degrees Fahrenheit—the temperature of the ground below the surface.

How Does Geothermal Work?

Geothermal HVAC systems transfer the earth’s energy to and from your Pennsylvania house via a series of equipment and piping. A heat pump exchanger is the series of pipes called the “loop.” This loop of pipes is buried in the ground either vertically or horizontally, depending on your home’s geography.

A fluid (usually water mixed with environmentally friendly antifreeze) is circulated through the pipes to absorb and dispel the heat from the ground. This heat is then extracted by the heat pump unit and delivered in or out of your home using conventional ductwork air-delivery systems.

Will a Geothermal Heat Pump Work for Your Camp Hill Home?

Geothermal heat pumps can heat and cool your home. They can even be equipped to provide hot water, for a water heater, if you choose that option. These heat pumps are very flexible and our HL Bowman professionals can install them in new construction or retrofit them to work with existing systems.

Just How Environmentally Friendly Is a Geothermal Heat Pump?

Geothermal systems are environmentally conscious and require very little maintenance. This is a wonderful combination.

These systems produce the fewest emissions, reduce air and water pollution, and use the least amount of electricity, saving you energy costs in the long run. They are safe for the environment as well as your home. Geothermal heat pumps contribute positively to its indoor air quality. They also provide the most stable comfort level, with more efficient humidity control and less noise.
