Why Repair Appliances?

  • Repairing a minor issue can prevent damage from worsening and causing a costly breakdown or replacement.
  • A repair can save you money in the long run by restoring efficiency. Malfunctioning appliances tend to use more energy, which increases energy costs.
  • Regular maintenance and prompt repairs extend appliance lifespan.
  • A repair will save time you would otherwise spend shopping for a replacement, ordering it, and waiting for delivery.
  • You may be reluctant to replace an appliance because you are accustomed to it. Maybe it was a wedding gift or a retro appliance from your childhood home. You may merely like its controls better than those on new models. If an appliance fits your needs, there is no reason to junk it if repairs can make it safe and useable.
  • A repair makes the most sense when it costs no more than half the price of a new appliance. If you have no emotional attachment to your ailing appliance and it is nearing the end of its average lifespan, weigh the cost of repair versus replacement.

According to ENERGY STAR®, refrigerators over 15 years old could cost you more than $80 annually in operating costs. You may want to upgrade rather than repair if your appliance is outdated.

Preparing For Repairs

Knowing when you bought the appliance, its make, model number, and serial number can be helpful information for our technician when you schedule your repairs.

Maintain a file on each appliance you own, including repair and maintenance receipts and instruction guides.

Signs Your Appliance Needs Repair

  • Washer: Loud noises, insufficient water in the drum, no drainage, leaks, too much vibration, and inability to start are red flags. A clogged drain, uneven laundry load, faulty valves, and a loose drum are among common problems.
  • Dryer: Noises, failure to start, wet clothing, and a burning odor signal a problem. Common problems include worn bearings, damaged belts, a faulty motor, and a blown thermal fuse.
  • Garbage disposal:  Noises, unpleasant odors, and jams are signs of a problem. Jammed blades, electrical issues, and worn components may occur.
  • Water heater: Look for leaks, strange noises, and a lack of hot water. Typical problems are sediment buildup, corrosion, and a faulty thermostat.
  • Refrigerator: Unusual noises, frost, and the inability to maintain cold temperatures signal the need for repair. A defective compressor, faulty condenser coils, or a bad thermostat may be the cause.
  • Dishwasher: Leaks and odd odors point to a problem. A clogged filter, broken spray arm, and broken pump can cause issues.
  • Stoves: Temperature fluctuations, an oven that doesn’t heat, and uneven cooking are signs of a problem Common stove issues include faulty igniters and worn heating elements.
